Is evaluation (such as examinations) absolutely necessary for learning?

It is absolutely necessary! Students won't learn otherwise!

Students CAN learn without evaluation but they've been conditioned to be driven by evaluation as the motivator.

Evaluation only makes the students go after an impression of learning and not actual learning. Actual learning cannot happen with external motivators such as examinations. Motivation to learn should come through DESIRE to learn alone.

Evaluation makes the student go for the least possible achievement. It doesn't encourage them to think outside the box.

Learning can happen only when evaluation is made defunct.
