‘SMU!’, short for ‘Stop Manufacturing Us!’, is a student-initiated project aimed at facilitating accurate analysis of the crises of the current education culture so that we can arrive at fitting solutions. We are primarily an online journal that aims to publish well-researched articles about the education culture and to be a platform for concerned citizens to voice their opinions and ideas regarding the various educational issues. It is also an online community of like-minded yet varied individuals who want to be change catalysts and most importantly we’re a symbol of rebellion against mass indoctrination and poor quality education.

Our Missions

We believe that true wholesome education should provide the means to otherwise aid-less individuals to turn themselves into intellectually, emotionally and morally independent individuals who will change the society for the better out of their own will. A fact that we wish to change is that institutionalized education such as schooling, which are often confused with education, is based on indirect coercion of individuals through extrinsic motivators and social conditioning to race towards what is collectivistically good.

“Towards stirring a revolution in education” is our motto. But we do not claim to be anywhere near our destination. We’re merely in the beginning (or rather, the first phase) of our journey towards stirring a revolution.

We understand that it is not possible to solve a problem, or in our case, stir a revolution, without clearly understanding the intricacies the issue at hand possesses. Therefore, as phase one in our objective, we strive to enlighten everyone with the knowledge of the intricacies of the various issues that the education culture faces by inviting competent minds to write on the various prjoects in the pipeline. In the beginning these “competent minds” would be someone within our immediate reach and general readers like you. But soon, as we expand, as we surely will, we will invite notable educational activists, reformers, concerned educators, journalists, experts and figures of such calibre to write on different aspects of the issue. And before we know it, we’ll have a rich reserve of constructive criticism, knowledge, ideas and solutions.

We also aim to be a common platform where sensible thinkers have the opportunity to discuss their opinions and ideas and engage in debates regarding education. As we put it, all you need are a mind of your own and a voice and we’ll provide the stage and the audience to air your opinions.
